The Boustead Approach is scientific, with a proven methodology and database using success driven experience to guide clients with their sustainability strategy, using environmental life cycle assessment (LCA).

  1. SCIENTIFIC
Our Founder, the late Dr. Ian Boustead was well known for his leadership in life cycle science.  In the USA, he was a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) LCA Advisory Group and led the methodological efforts in developing the technical framework for LCA.  He chaired the expert group for the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) now PlasticsEurope and the liaison committee on LCA for Europe and was a member of the British Delegation to ISO TC 207 which prepared the ISO 14040 series of standards on LCA.  He was honored in 1997 by the award of the Melchett Medal, the highest award of the Institute of Energy in London, for over 30 years of pioneering work and scientific achievement in life cycle science.
  2. PROVEN METHODOLOGY AND DATA BASE
The Boustead Model is a self-contained database and software application, which enables the construction of fully life-cycle inventories for virtually any process.  The database that accompanies the application is the largest, open, fully-editable inventory database that is commercially available.  The power of the Boustead Model lies both in the wealth of inventory data that is supplied in the database, and in the way that the operations are linked together to form a proven methodology.
  3. SUCCESS DRIVEN EXPERIENCE
Boustead Consulting Associates has conducted success driven LCAs for companies applying for sustainable energy programs issued by the USA Department of Energy (DOE) for loan guarantees.  The DOE weighs the LCA results as 1/3 of the value of the total application.

Examples

  • ABOUND (a solar cell manufacturing company) received $400,000,000 dollars in loan guarantees.
  • ENER1 (EnerDel - a lithium ion battery manufacturer for electric cars) is expecting $118,500,000 in conditional grants and has applied for loan guarantees.
